The American political system was, as the saying goes, “designed by geniuses so it could be run by idiots.” But a cocktail of political and technological trends have converged in the last decade that are making it possible for the idiots of all political stripes to overwhelm and paralyze the genius of our system.
they let the bullies on their team plow away with some godforsaken template architecture in C++ because otherwise they’d have to admit that they just don’t feel smart enough to use what would otherwise be a perfectly good programming technique FOR SPOCK.
100Kgarages is a community of workshops all over the world that are run by “Fabbers”, with digital fabrication tools for precisely cutting, machining, drilling, or sculpting the components of your project. We’re here to help hook you up with these Fabbers. 100kGarages is also a place to learn how the process works and to help you create and refine your own creative designs and make them “Fabber ready”.
The generous attitude towards failure that big cities afford is invaluable — it’s how things get created. In a small town everyone knows about your failures, so you are more careful about what you might attempt.

My theory is that the things that you own that you’re not using or don’t need aren’t just a waste of money and space: they’re draining you of your energy. Every time you walk past that cookbook that you never opened, or that model airplane kit that you meant to assemble, or the oscilloscope that you haven’t turned on in a year, a little neural pattern fires that says “Someday I should..” or “I always meant to…” or “God, I really ought to take care of that.
I think it’s also entirely possible that they recognize that the best way to deal with these people is not to yank on their chain but to give them enough rope to hang themselves.
